The underwater world of the Red Sea is a delightful colorful extravaganza. In its azure waters grow amazing corals of all colors of the rainbow, between which swim flocks of shy fish, reminiscent of precious stones. Diving with scuba diving, you can easily meet a sea turtle, see a stingray, hammerhead fish or whale shark. Advanced divers can go down to shipwrecks or do a night dive with equipment. The best dive sites in Egypt provide all this.
The Red Sea is a real mecca for divers from all over the world, allowing you to plunge into incredible underwater adventures. Among all the places in Egypt, Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh are considered the top places for diving. The first location is extremely popular with tourists, but as a diving destination, it loses heavily to Sharm el Sheikh. Only here there are amazing dive spots, before the grandeur and beauty of which it is impossible to resist.
Ras Mohammed
This is the southernmost location of the Sinai Peninsula, distant from Sharm by 25 km. Here is one of the largest coral reserves, which allows you to confidently call it a location where the best diving in Egypt takes place.
The reserve has existed for 35 years, it was created to preserve and protect from destruction of reefs, which managed to conquer the splendor of J.I. Cousteau. Here grows more than 200 species of coral, the age of some colonies is more than 2 billion years. Most often divers dive at the reefs called Garden of Eels, Shark Observatory, City of Anemones, Iolanthe. Fantastic coral beds are home to clownfish, seahorses, moray eels and hundreds of other marine life. Diving in Ras Mohammed is often combined with a trip to the Lake of Wishes and mangrove gardens.
Tiran Island
It's hard to find a better place to dive in Egypt than the reefs of this island. It is part of the Ras Mohammed National Park. The Strait of Tiran connects the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aqaba, and there are four amazing reefs named after the British explorers who first told the world about them. Thomas, Woodhouse, Jackson, Gordon - these coral walls are home to both small, skittish fish and huge turtles. The most popular dive spot is Jackson Reef, which can amaze divers with its stunning fire corals, gorgonaria and turbinaria. A kind of bonus for those who chose this location for scuba diving with equipment, are the wrecks of the shipwrecked ship Lora.
The ship Tystelgorm
A huge ship weighing 5,000 tons was discovered in the Suez Canal by the Cousteau expedition in the 1950s. The huge British dry cargo ship sank to the bottom at the very beginning of the Second World War. The ship is at a depth of 30 meters.
Diving here automatically turns into an amazing underwater adventure. Together with divers the ship will be explored by barracudas and dolphins. On the ship itself is a lot of cars, motorcycles, military equipment, spare parts for airplanes. All this good is perfectly preserved underwater, although covered with a layer of rust for many years.
Only experienced scuba divers should go to explore the Tystelgorm ship, as there are quite strong currents here.
Dahab
The incredible beauty and splendor of the underwater canyon provides fantastic diving for divers of all levels. Enter the water near the shore, from where you have to walk about 30 meters along a gentle descent stretching for hundreds of meters.
The canyon in Dahab is a natural tunnel formed at the bottom of the sea. You can get here only through several entrances along the rift. Once at depth in this place, you can go up to the top, getting into a round “aquarium” - a natural cave. The small sand bed can accommodate up to six people.
Very close to the canyon is a stunning-looking coral garden, which has the same entry and exit points. The beginning and end of the dive is a huge blue lagoon with a white sandy bottom and a cornet fish controlling the surroundings. A little further away from the lagoon is an impressive peak, home to actinia, unicorn fish and crocodile fish. From it, you can go even further into the Coral Garden.
The feeling of the diver observing the marvelous wall of coral on the right side, the blue lagoon on the left and the invisible bottom below him cannot be described in words. Rounding out the deep part is a “waterfall” climb to a small coral garden. This is a paradise for lovers of underwater photography, where you can take your best shots of this truly unique splendor.
